The hyperkinetic world of assume vivid astro focus (‘avaf’) knows no perimeters. Melding digital technology, performance art, neon, balloons and graffiti with a whole lot of glitter, the international collective are pop-culture mixologists.

At CORE:, avaf is presenting the installation always vet american financiers, which consists of the wallpaper ‘Ilegítimo’, a variation of which is currently up at MOCA Cleveland, and the neon ‘always vet american financiers’, which was created specifically for CORE:. Produced by Cottelston Advisors and Natalie Kovacs, the exhibition coincides with the release of avaf’s first book by Rizzoli.

The installation at CORE: unequivocally encapsulates the inclusive nature of avaf's work and the ideology behind it. With its shifting perspective, high-speed energy, and kaleidoscopic style, the wallpaper introduces a new reality. At the same time, the message of the neon sculpture work is poignant and timely. By using neon, avaf takes a medium associated with Main Street and uses it to speak to Wall Street, while the retro design reminds us that this is not the first financial crisis or the last. The work reflects CORE:'s sensibility - it is relevant, innovative and fun.
